5 foods to load up on

Are you on a new wellness path or journey? If so, this is a great blog for you! I’m going to discuss five foods you should embrace and welcome into your lifestyle.

Number One… Whole Foods

Whole foods are simply foods that are prepared from ingredients as close to their natural state as possible. Whole foods are unprocessed and unrefined. Whole foods will typically not contain any added ingredients, such as salt, sugar, or any fat. To embrace a whole food lifestyle you need to say Bye-Bye to processed foods, refined foods and sugars, additives, preservatives, salts and fats.

Number Two… Whole Grains

Whole grains contain essential enzymes, iron, dietary fiber, Vitamin-E and B-complex vitamins. The body absorbs grains slowly and they provide sustained and high-quality energy. Whole grains are high in fiber, which means the carbohydrates are absorbed much slower into our system. They don’t raise our blood sugar ad help the digestive system run smoothly. Some example of whole grains would be brown rice, quinoa, and buckwheat.

Number Three… Get Your Greens

Green leafy vegetables are easy to find year round and are extremely nutritious, however most people don’t eat enough of them. Green leafy vegetables contain high amounts of chlorophyll, and are incredibly alkalizing for the body. The boast high amounts of easily digestible nutrients, vitamins, mineral, and proteins. Some examples would be spinach, watercress, kale, and dandelion greens.

Number Four… Natural Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners are horrible for us! These should definitely stay out of our diet. With that being said… we are given our “sweet” tastebud for a reason. In Ayurveda you have the six tastes that you should have with every meal. Sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent. Swap the white sugar for some of the natural substitutes… Organic raw honey, coconut sugar, stevia, coconut syrup, blackstrap molasses, and dates.

Number Five… Smoothies and Juices

If you new to trying or interested in trying it, just be aware it takes a lot of produce to get a glass of juice. Now stores like Whole Foods and the Fresh Market have fresh pressed juices you can buy. Saves you time and money! I also love making smoothies. My go-to daily smoothie now is Shakeology. This provides me my daily dose of dense nutrition and superfood all in one drink. It comes in different flavors and has saved me a ton of money just drinking Shakeology. I’ve been able to cut back on all the other supplements I used to be individually, and now get it all in just one drink a day.
